MOSPAA NEWS

September 2004

What you might have missed…..

Kindergarten Coffee Hour

This very popular event for parents of new Kindergarteners was very successful and had a great turnout. Thanks to those that helped make it so.

Used Uniform Sale

The new uniform policy resulted in a less-than-usual amount of used uniforms, so the sale was not as successful as in years past. The next sale this spring should be great!

Faculty Luncheon

Mary Vacca chaired the faculty luncheon on September 7. Mary was inspired by the Olympic Games and chose an Olympic theme. Thanks to everyone who donated the delicious food; it was enjoyed by all.

Jim Reece, MOSPAA member, has been activated to serve in the US Military. We send our prayers with him for speedy and safe return. If you have a member of your family serving in the military, please let us know.

What’s going on now!

Faculty Lounge The faculty lounge is now nearly complete. A group of parents cleaned, painted, renovated, and decorated the lounge. The lounge had never had a facelift and was very dull and outdated. Laurie D’Arpino has been instrumental in getting this project funded and many thanks go out to her. This project would not have been possible without the donations Laurie acquired from the following:

Chase Pitkins/Mike Zillioux cabinets/countertop

Signature Homes, finishing of cabinets

Raymour & Flanigan and Mike Chaba, a leather couch

Jerry and Marianne Mallaber, grandparents of Lauren and Miranda Potter, wicker furniture set

Wieme family, a sink and faucet (which is awaiting installation provided the water pipes comply. If you are or know a plumber who would like to donate their time, please contact Mr. Zalacca)

Many thanks to Jeanine Noto; Ellen, Hannah, and Sara Padulo; Cindy, Chuck and Ashley Salsedo; Mark, Nicol, and Nicolas Wieme; Laurie and Marissa D’Arpino; and MaryEllen Hart-Predmore, for the painting, cleaning, and decorative wall treatments. Mark Wieme for hanging the cabinets and blinds. And thanks to MaryEllen Hart-Predmore, Carol Gutmann, and the maintenance staff for letting everyone in and out during the summer.

Magazine Drive Our most profitable fundraiser begins September 14. Information packets were sent home with students. This fundraiser is dedicated for capital improvements in the school. Coordinator: Patty Rowland 392.6085.

Bob Vogt, MOS school custodian, is retiring after 20+ years of dedicated service. The Men’s Club will host a retirement reception for Bob Vogt on Sunday, September 19, 2 - 4 pm in the Church Hall. All are welcome.

Cookbooks Our Mother of Sorrows Cookbooks are again available. These have made great gifts and Christmas is coming up soon. Purchase yours today by calling the school office. Purchase an extra copy to give to your favorite chef for Christmas! Proceeds are dedicated to playground renovations.

Passport Club This educational activity was such a success last year that we’re doing it again. Box Tops for Education funded this project. Thanks to Dawn Gilmore for all her hard work. Be sure to turn in your family’s box tops.
